Description:

This course provides assistance to sport venue managers to prepare and/or enhance an evacuation plan to assist emergency responders in implementing flexible and scalable evacuation activities (i.e. evacuation, sheltering in place, or relocation). These emergency activities might occur in isolation or as a result of a larger, multi-entity response initiative. The course is highly innovative in that it builds multi-agency collaboration by delivering critical evacuation planning information. The user will also obtain a “take away” package with visualization and CD’s from lessons learned, and templates for customizing their own evacuation plan.

Sports and Special Events Incident Management MGT 404 – 23 – 24 April 2015

Course Description:

This course develops athletic department staffs, facility management personnel, campus public safety personnel, emergency response supervisors, and others involved in sports/special event management to better manage incidents that could occur during an event. The course provides participants the skills necessary to effectively manage an incident by applying and implementing a multi-disciplinary management team approach as described in the National Incident Management System (NIMS). The course has specific emphasis on the unique aspects of response to an incident occurring during a sports/special event, including considerations for business continuity and after action activities. The course concludes with a practical application, role-play exercise that can be customized to the facility in which the course is delivered. It provides specific emphasis on incident action planning and resource management processes.

Your research paper could net you $100 and free entry into this summer’s Natural Hazards Workshop if chosen as one of the two winners of our annual Hazards and Disasters Student Paper Competition.

Papers may present current research, literature reviews, theoretical arguments, or case studies on social or behavioral aspects of hazards or disasters. The competition is open to graduate or undergraduate students enrolled for at least one term of the 2014-2015 academic year.

FEMA to host March webinars to discuss guidance changes for FY2015 Hazard Mitigation Assistance Programfrom IAEMSignificant changes have been made to the Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) Guidance, a comprehensive document that details the specific criteria of the three HMA programs: the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP), Pre-Disaster Mitigation (PDM) and Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) programs. The Fiscal Year 2015 HMA Guidance provides stakeholders with updates and refinements of program policies and practices. These enhancements will promote resilience, and streamline application review, eligibility requirements, project cost estimates and implementation. The changes to the program include the areas of: climate change/resilience; adoption of the federal government framework for grants management; mitigation planning changes; new benefit-cost analysis methodologies; various environmental planning and historic presentation clarifications; and resources and job aids to assist in program delivery. EMP Hawaii Congratulations on IAEM Certifications

Congratulations to our EMP Hawaii members who during the recent application process were just informed that they have completed their International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) certification requirements:

We also have several other members whose applications are being processed by IAEM and hope to hear the good news soon on their applications as well.

For any member interested in obtaining this international and industry recognized certification as an Emergency Management Professional, please let us know.

We’ve worked with members who are familiar with the process, and could educate them in preparing their application, as well as have coordinated local testing for those needing to sit for the IAEM written exam. We’ll also scheduling additional opportunities to take the IAEM exam later this year.
