Emergency Management Professional Program

The vision of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA’s) Emergency Management Institute (EMI) is to strengthen the field of emergency management by establishing an Emergency Management Professional Program (EMPP). The EMPP provides a structured and progressive framework for acquiring the knowledge, skills, and abilities to enter and progress through the field and to meet the challenges of a dynamic and complex environment. The entire EMPP curriculum is designed to provide a lifetime of learning for a career in emergency management.

The EMPP includes three academies:

  • National Emergency Management Basic Academy
  • National Emergency Management Advanced Academy (formerly the Leaders Academy)
  • National Emergency Management Executive Academy

The application window is 1 March to 31 May 2015 for the National Emergency Management Advanced Academy.  The Selection Board will convene in June 2015 to select 2 Cohorts of 35 each.  The exact dates will be worked and finalized in spring 2015, however the Fall Cohort will start in November 2015 and the Spring Cohort in March 2016.  Please ensure your application is complete and use the following file title protocol to ensure ease of processing. “EMI Advanced Academy FY15 App your name e.g. Wheeler Todd”

  • Fall Cohort resident courses are Nov, Apr, Oct, May
  • Spring Cohort resident courses are Mar, Aug, Dec, July
